My Hometown – Smithsonian Folklife Festival

I spent the day with friends at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. It was an awesome day for it. Not to hot and not to humid.  This year the Folklife Festival is featuring China and Kenya.

You could probably spend an entire day on each. There is so much to do and see. You’re allowed to get up and and personal with some of the artisans. I really don’t know where to begin with telling you about the Festival. Some things you just have to experience.

Guest Post – My Hometown – Fresno, CA

Well what can I say I live directly in the middle of the state of California good old Fresno or what some refer to as the pit or armpit of the state depending on the mood you are in that day about living here.  I have lived here the better part of almost four decades.  I was raised here, left for a bit as a young adult and then came back because it was familiar and and everyone I knew was here.

You know as kid you never really think much about where you live because hey there are much better things going on then the boring adult thoughts of where you live and why you live there.  It’s a fairly large city with half a million people roaming around at any given moment and because there is such a big agriculture presence here there is also a lot of diversity, we are primarily Hispanic and White but we also have a large African-American, Asian and Hmong culture too.  People are of all different colors, languages, styles, and ghetto status here.  It’s like if Los Angeles were to have a baby that would be Fresno.

Sarah from the Truth Shall Set You Free So Don’t Be a Crybaby will be sharing her hometown on Saturday, June 28th. I can’t wait to read about her hometown. I really enjoy finding out where people are from and about their hometowns, states, countries. The real inside perspective. Not the media hubbub.

Sarah will also be doing the Breaking Taboo article in July. Super stoked about that. I’m not going to tell you what it is. You’ll just have to come back the first Wednesday in July and read it.

Also, Amanda over at From One Crazy Life to Another will be contributing monthly Breaking Taboo articles the third Wednesday of each month.

My Hometown – Hillwood Gardens and Mansion

This weeks edition of My Hometown is Hillwood Estate, Gardens and Museum. Oh my goodness this is one of Washington, DC hidden treasures. It’s a jewel and if you’re ever in the city or you live in the DC Metro area, you must go!

Today was my first visit and I ❤ it.

So, just a little background. It was owned by Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress to the Post cereal fortune.

Be a Guest Blogger

I had an ‘Ah Ha’ moment a couple of weeks ago after the Blogging A to Z Challenge and WordPress’s Blogging 201 ended. I already knew there are a lot of great bloggers out there form all over the world and I thought I’d open up the “My Hometown” segment to those of you that wanted to show my readers and me your hometown.

Whenever I meet someone one of my questions is, “Where are you from?” I know that’s a pretty generic question, right up there with, “How are you?” And most people ask out of some strange social politeness, but I ask because I genuinely want to know where you’re from. I like to know what other people’s hometowns are like and their culture.

I’m also opening up my once a month segment “Breaking Taboo.” I have come to realize that there are certain things that I’d really like to talk about and have a discussion on, but because of my lack of knowledge or experience in that area it would difficult for me write about it.
