Weekend Coffee Share

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Can you believe it – it’s the end of 2015 and the last coffee share?! I know I can’t.

I had a lot of wonderful experiences throughout the year and some not so pleasant ones, but I’m not unique in that. We’ve all had some ups and down this year and we made it through. So, I say give yourself a high-five, a fist bump, a belly bump, a booty bump or whatever you do to congratulate yourself.

Usually, I go to church with my family on Christmas Continue reading

Day 5: Five Favorite Christmas Movies or TV shows

5 Favorite Christmas Movies or TV shows

This was really easy and at the same time hard because there are quite a few Christmas Movies/TV shows that I enjoy.

I’m always in a rather bah humbug kind of mood before Christmas. Perhaps because it seems to come earlier and earlier each year. Remember when the day after Thanksgiving ushered in the Christmas season? Now they start advertising before Halloween. It’s so frustrating, but once I hear my favorite Christmas tune ‘Silent Night’ by the Temptations and watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and hear Thurl Ravenscroft belt out ‘You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch’ then everything is good.

So here a few of my favs. . . Continue reading

Day 4: Four Christmas Traditions

4 Christmas Traditions

I really had to think about this one because at first glance it seemed like our family didn’t have any Christmas traditions, but then as I thought – we did/do.

Christmas really hasn’t changed much since I was a child. We went to church and afterwards headed over to my grandparents houses. I didn’t consider going to church on Christmas day a Christmas tradition at first, because to me it was like going to church on any other Sunday or Easter Sunday, or Palm Sunday. Perhaps the only real difference was service was a bit longer because we had a Christmas production.

My parents would Continue reading

Day 2: Two foods I can’t get through Christmas without

2 foods you can’t get through Christmas without

Maybe I should have put this one nearer the end. It was hard for me to narrow down just two foods.

The first is my mom’s block dressing. A friend of my sister’s gave it the title block dressing because well it’s fixed in a square pan and it’s cut into squares. I don’t know what my mother does to it. If she sticks her big toe in it or her whole foot, but it’s absolutely scrumdiddlyumptious.

The second is a toss up. It would be either my father’s fried turkey or my aunt’s potato salad. Again, I don’t know what they do to it to make it so good but I can never get enough it.

Oh crap, I forgot about my grandmothers pineapple pound cake.

I told you this was hard.

I’m so glad we have good cooks in the family because I don’t particularly care for it; and thank goodness my specialty is never on the menu – pork chops. Hmmm. If I had to cook a holiday meal what would be on the menu?

  • Pork Chops (fried just to be crunchy and then finished off in the oven)
  • Homemade apple sauce
  • Agave roasted brussel sprouts
  • My mom’s block dressing
  • Tea

Well, now that I’m all hungry and have a hankerin’ for block dressing, fried turkey, potato salad, pineapple puns cake and more.

Oh well another week and I’ll have it all and then some, but for now I’ll have to settle for two little scrawny baked chicken wings, brussel sprouts and rice for dinner.

Weekend Coffee Share

If We Were Having Coffee. .  .

I’d tell you that this is weekend has been pretty brutal. I’m out of meds for my headache, so I’ve been lying on the couch drowning myself with water trying to minimize it. I’ve already exceeded the recommended daily dose of Ibuprofen. I’m sure my liver hates me right about now, but I guarantee that’s nothing for the “love” I have for this headache.

And, yes I will be calling the doctor tomorrow for more meds.

If We Were Having Coffee. . .

I’d tell you, I’m very nearly done with my Christmas Continue reading
