☕️ Weekend Coffee Share ☕️

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you welcome back and I can’t believe it’s been more than a month since our last visit. I’m really quite excited about today as so much has taken place since we last got together. Entirely too much to tell you in a single sitting. So, here are a few highlights.

If we were having coffee. . .

I’d tell you it’s snowing in Denver right now. Not as bad as I thought, but nevertheless it’s snowing. I know that April is a snowy month here in Colorado, but I just want spring to stay sprung even if it means my allergies reek havoc with my body.

If we were having coffee. . .

I’d tell you that I’m trying to get a Collaborative Writing project, called Ink Fusion, started over on the short story blog. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now and I’m hoping that now is a good time to get it going. Here’s the gist of the project. Beginning May 18th, if all goes according to plan, eight writers from various genres will pen a piece of the story until there is one complete story at the end of eight weeks. If you’re interested in participating, click here. And of course, if you know of anyone that may be interested, please pass it along. Thanks in advance!

If we were having coffee. . .

I’d tell you that I think I’ve finally made a decision about the direction I want 20/20 Hines Sight to go. I’ve written some personal essays in response to a couple of WordPress Daily Prompts. I enjoyed writing them. Nothing over-the-top, but an introspective uncensored look into the mind of Erica. (Could prove dangerous.)😈 Having said that, I’ll revisit once the A to Z Challenge is over.

If we were having coffee. . .

I’ve been kind of participating in the A to Z Challenge over at my short story blog. I hit a couple of hurdles and it’s not for want of ideas. My original plan was to write 26 independent yet intertwined stories. Well, I started writing them and then, I didn’t like where they were going. My writing style is already pretty dark and most of the stories I had prewritten seemed much darker and well to be honest even depressed me or rather had me concerned about my own mental health. So, I thought it best to scrap some of them, rewrite others, and just start fresh new ones. As a result I’m kind of playing catchup.

Getting caught up with writing the stories for the Challenge is proving a bit difficult because (1) I’m in the process of packing. I’m moving at the end of the month. Needless to say I’m doing this thing all by myself, which isn’t terribly bad; but I had no bloody idea how much more crap I accumulated. No one single person should have so much junk. So, with trash bags in hand, I must purge – Goodwill here I come. (2) Last Friday I got sick and still am. Therefore there isn’t much packing or writing going on at the moment. All I know is that whatever took me out is still kickin’ my arse.

I’ve been super congested during my infirmity and no drug was working. So, I commanded the Google gods to show me some natural home remedies to rid me of this awfulness. The Google gods worked overtime and provided results in abundance. The one that caught my eye the most was a:

Homemade Natural Spicy Cider Decongestant and Expectorant
– ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper
– ½ teaspoon of powdered ginger
– 3 tablespoons of all natural organic honey
– 1/4 cup of lemon juice
– 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

It’s super quick to whip up and is quite tasty. That is you like spicy.

Pour ¼ cup of lemon juice and ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar in pot and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in 2-3 tablespoons of raw organic honey and ¼-½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper and powdered ginger each (the latter amount makes it quite strong.) Store in a jar in a cool, dark, place indefinitely. Adults take 1-2 tablespoons daily as needed. Shake well before using, as the powder doesn’t dissolve in the most pristine way. I find it pleasant sometimes to warm the mixture before taking it.

I did 2 tablespoons before bedtime on Thursday and around 4:30 am I woke up coughing and getting rid of that some of that nasty phlegm that’s been lodged in my chest. I did it again last night and the same thing happened. Feeling a bit better, congestion wise anyway. An FYI, I read somewhere that it works best when you’re asleep. I do believe it’s true.

If we were having coffee . . .

I’d beg you to not make fun of me for being a 40 something year-old woman who is jammin’ to Justin Bieber.

Welp, that’s it for now. Gotta get some packing done, but I’m really feeling the need to crawl into bed and go to sleep.

  1. Hope you’re feeling better and able to check some more things off of your to-do list, as it sounds like a full load! A to Z is a bit more challenging for me this year than it has been, but it’s been good for jump-starting my writing, I think. Now if I can just make it through the month…:)

  2. Lots going on in your world! 😊Good luck with it all. I have moved several times in my life and it always feels like a great cleanse! Get rid of all that “crap” and hang on to what means the most! I can understand the cold remedies working better when you sleep and are laying down. Breathing is even and the concoction can spread out breaking up that nasty stuff. Hope you are all better soon and good luck with the rest of the A to Z. I started it but bowed out after “G” when my ideas and motivation dried up!

  3. Sorry about having problems, the home remedy sounds very strong. The cayenne pepper has a lot of heat.
When we moved here I said it is our last moved. We change apartments once. Good luck with the moved.
