If we were having coffee . . . We probably wouldn’t be unless it’s decaf or a Starbucks Peach Green Tea or a glass of wine.
This week was strange work wise. It was meh to WTF. People insist on poking the bear and then when said bear rises up they wonder why. Anyway the work week ended on a high. Inspire of folks poking the bear, I was able to get a lot done. I convinced (at least that the story I’m sticking with) our office manager that we should celebrate National Wine Day, even though it was on Thursday. Better late than never right? She completely surprised me. When she sent out the email stating, “Happy Hour at 4 pm. Drinks and snacks will be served.” I thought that the snacks would consist of cookies, crackers, or some such thing like that. Well, I’ll be damned. Not only did she pull out the wine, but the beer, bourbon, Jack, whiskey and we had cheese and crackers and fruit to go along.
Best work happy hour EVER!!😀
This week I decided to do something I had been planning wanting to do for a while. I signed up for Soldiers’ Angels. It’s a program that helps support our deployed troops by sending care packages and/or letter writing and much more. It also helps those returning from deployment. I adopted my first soldier on Thursday and she seems like my kinda gal. She’s a fan of Doctor Who and Sherlock, which means she’s automatically my bestie. While I’m waiting for my Military Care Package Kit from the post office, I’m going to head over to Target to pick up a few things.
Tutoring is going much better than expected. I picked up another student who needs help with reading comprehension. I’m not particularly fond of the way they do things here. And I don’t even know if it’s part of the Common Core, which I don’t particularly care for. What I’ve heard from parents is that everything is timed. If you don’t read a certain number of words by a certain time than there is something wrong, which I think is wrong because some people read faster than others.
I’m slowly but surely getting myself prepared for the A to Z Challenge, which I’m only doing on my short story blog. I’ve changed a few of the story topics because I couldn’t get behind them. But if I’m being honest, I bored myself to tears writing them; so if I bored myself I can only imagine how bored ya’ll would be reading them. The year I’m going to be an A to Z helper (a Holton’s Hero). I’m really excited about that. I always like reading what others come up with and being exposed to other bloggers.
I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to do the challenge here or not. I’m leaning towards not because I have no clue what my topics would be or a theme or anything. I was considering doing my own weekly or biweekly A to Z Challenge.
Since I officially said I was taking a pseudo break from 20/20 with the exception of the Coffee Share, I’ve done a bit of observation. I’ve been doing a lot more creative writing, and most of it will never see the light of day. There’s a lot of word vomit, which needed and needs to come out. It’s been quite freeing and I’ve come back here and taken a look at a few of the many drafts and think I know where I want to go with them.
A couple of weekends ago I participated in a Stream of Consciousness Saturday and used that prompt as my 10-minute writing exercise. I didn’t finish the story, but have the beginnings of something. I continued writing the story and it’s taken on a life all its own. It headed in an unexpected direction. Even the edits have taken on lives of their own. The story has taken me slightly out of my comfort zone, but not too far I can’t reel myself back in and I’m not even sure I want to come back to center with it. Part of me wants to explore where this is going to go if I just let it go, but another part of me says reel it back in.
Well, I’ve been prattling on and it’s getting late. Thanks for stopping by and indulging me. Have a great week and until next time.

I am a nanny, so I doubt I will get a fun happy hour LOL! The Soldier’s Angels sounds interesting!

Oh please! 🙂 You can certainly have happy hour. I’m excited to get started with Soldiers Angels. My brand of retail therapy, but instead of buying for myself I’m buying for someone who does so much for us.

It seems like you have been busy. The Soldiers Angel sou ds interesting. Glad the tutoring is helping someone and you. People do read at different times. It is more important that retain what they read.

Hi Betty, yeah I’ve been a bit busier than normal and enjoying it. I agree people read at different speeds and what they retain is most important.

You have the coolest boss ever. I saw that it was National Wine day and considered celebrating that evening at home but I feel asleep instead. In my defense, it had been a very long day.😕 The Soldiers Angel program sounds great. What fun picking out things to send and just imagine how tickled she will be when it arrives.
Enjoy your week of writing.

I know right? I give her super kudos for Friday. I’m excited about the Soldiers’ Angels program. I said going shopping for someone else that does so much for us is a much better retail therapy than shopping for myself. I hope she likes it. I ordered a couple of fun novelty items. Waiting for them to be delivered. I’ll take a pic and post it before I send it out.
