Weekend Coffee Share 1.9.16

Happy first full week of 2016! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. My week was pretty decent. I went grocery shopping, so my cupboards are fully stocked. Please help yourself to the homemade hot chocolate (sorry no marshmallows), coffee (decaf and regular), tea (black and green) and of course water and OJ. I made some banana bread, so have some. It’s pretty tasty if I must say so.

I woke up this morning feeling a little melancholy. Missing family. I called home and probably about 5 minutes into the conversation with my mom I was no longer melancholy. I guess I needed to hear her usual disagreeable tone when things aren’t going right. Apparently my father neglected to put the screwdriver back in its proper place and she was fussing about that. Ah sometimes it’s the small things that make you happy.

I’ve been trying to eat a little bit better. My doctor told me my cholesterol was slightly elevated. Nothing that a change in diet and exercise can’t fix. I’ll really have to start that after I finish the bacon and sausage and hamburger and Klondike sandwiches and potato chips I just bought. At least I was salt conscious. The bacon, sausage, and chips have reduced salt; so that counts for something, right?

Last night I started really trying to ferret out what I’m going to do for the Blogging A to Z Challenge on this blog and I slammed full steam into a wall. I have about a half-dozen topics, but none of them give me a warm fuzzy. 😔

This morning I went back over the prompts for my short story blog and found a couple of humdingers – i.e. ‘write a story with no Ys’ and ‘write a story in which each word begins with the letter T’. Really what the heck was on my mind when I came up with those? Guess I need to start brushing up on my vocabulary and I apologize in advance because I have a sneaky suspicion that you, my dear readers, will undoubtedly be the victims of some writing experiments. Smooches 😚

One of my blogging goals is write a monthly opinion article. Last week, I started thinking how one of the things I wanted to do last year was an ‘Express Yourself’ segment. How it was to work was I would post a question on current events and you would, well. . . express yourself. Give your thoughts on it. So, I’d like to do that and use the comments as a spring-board to the opinion article. I’m still working out the details and hopefully next week I’ll have it all ferreted out. Maybe we’ll see eye to eye and maybe we won’t, but hopefully if nothing more we can have an honest and respectful conversation.

Well, I must bid you adieu. My tummy is grumbling and I must feed the beast. Or I turn into a rather disagreeable person. Like mother, like daughter. Happy sharing.

  1. Those story challenges sound HARD! When I write, it’s largely for the sounds of the language, and doubt I could restrain myself that way. I had to laugh about your phone call with your mom. Mine is just exactly the same way, always nattering away at dad about something! Reminds me to be extra nice to Mr. M!

  2. Glad you had a good week!

My brother is usually the family member I call up when I’m feeling that lack of connection, so I know what you mean.

And girl, I haven’t even started with the A to Z stuff for this year yet! I know I should, but I just don’t have the time yet. lol

    • The year before I didn’t have one and rather like it. I’m having problems with coming up writing topics/prompts, so I might just wing it. It’s just easier for me to have some semblance of a plan rather than winging it, but I just might do wing it this year.

  3. You do like to challenge your self! Good for you. I am anxious to see what you come up with. For the A to Z challenge last year I didn’t really have a theme. I just made it up as I went along but I guess having an idea before you start would make it a little less exhausting! Thanks for the coffee.

  4. “The ‘T’ Tale? Trouble!,” Trent tells the tabulator. “Twas terribly tenacious, though.” Good luck on that one! No words with “Y” would be very simple in comparison. I hope you have a great week!
