A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that the past seven days have been a bit

I went to Cincinnati for my uncle’s funeral. It was a wonderful celebration of his life, his achievements, the role he played in he community. There were so many things I had forgotten and so much more that I didn’t know about him. I’m really glad I was able to attend his going home celebration; however getting there and coming back was somewhat a comedy of errors.

I’ll try to sum up my travel experience.

Returning Sunday was 12 hours of travel hell. If I was stuck at the airport any longer, I’m sure I would have ended up in airport jail. And this is why you should travel on valium.

I received an email Saturday night to let me know my flight would be departing Cincinnati at 7:40 am vs. 7:10. Well, 7:40 comes and goes and we hadn’t even boarded. When we finally do and get settled in the pilot says we’re holding at the gate because there’s a mix up with the paper work. I’m slightly confused because in my world that should have been sorted before the crew got there.

Finally they get that giant lightening conductor off the ground and the fella next to me asks the flight attendant if she thinks we’ll make our 9:35 am connection. I already knew the answer to that question. Let’s do the math shall we? We don’t get in the air until about 8:15 am, it’s nearly a 50 minute flight; which means we touch down at about 9:15 am, which leaves a whopping 10 minutes to get from Gate E to Gate B since the gates close 10 minutes prior to the planes departure – 9:25.

Well, the pilot must have been doing some sort of air speeding because we got there a few minutes early. Great! I’ll make my connection. “Folks please sit tight there’s another plane in our gate.” What the frickity frack? So, we sit and not patiently I might add. Finally, after about five minutes or so the other plane leaves and so does the damn ground crew. What the hell. The pilot comes back on and is quite apologetic. He’s not sure what happened, but the ground crew has left and that he’s called to get them back. How in the hell could you possibly miss this plane. Did it somehow become invisible? And furthermore where did the ground crew scamper off to that it takes them nearly 10 minutes to come back?

Needless to say I along with several others missed our connections.

I have to say the best part of that travel shit show was I met two guys. One going to Cincinnati and the other coming back. Who’d a thunk it? And yes, we did exchange numbers. And yes, we have already had a couple of conversations.

The rest of the week was pretty boring. One of our partners got a big case, so we had a bit of an upper east side celebration (perhaps I’ll tell you about the upper east side in another post). 😈 Anyway, we decided to have mimosa’s, which is actually a common Friday occurrence on the the upper east side. We also decided to have various alcohol infused foods – jell-o shots, bourbon brownie bites, beer battered chicken bites, an awesome shrimp scampi, just to name a few. Yep the upper east side knows how to party, drink and eat. Oh and I made the jell-o sots and bourbon brownie bites.

I’m getting a little more stressed and anxious as the days go by. My mother will be arriving on the 13th, but that’s not where the angst is coming from. The following week I’m having my wisdom teeth out and another minor procedure. Happy birthday to me.

I’ve decided that I probably won’t renew my lease next year for the following reasons. 1) I hate apartment living. It reminds me of living in the dorms and I loathed dorm living. 2) The walls are nothing more than partitions. I can hear my neighbors conversations as if they’re in my apartment. 3) My upstairs neighbor is an annoying inconsiderate dick. As I type this it sounds as though he’s trying to saw and drill his way down to my apartment.

My mother and I have already talked about it and when she comes out, we’re going to put her realtor skills to use. A house hunting we shall go. Thanks mom.

Well, I’m going to sign off for now. Until next time.

  1. Good luck with the wisdom teeth! I had mine out a long time ago, and it wasn’t so bad.

Good luck with the house-hunting. I don’t miss living in an apartment complex at all—renting a house has definitely been the way to go for us.
