Day 9: [I]ncolense to Some, Taking a Stand to Others

Today’s Blogging A to Z Challenge post is inspired by The WordPress Daily Post: Tell us about a time when you fought authority and took a stand against “the man.” Did you win?and today’s Letter is I.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a fighter. I fought my mother in utero. According to her whenever she smoked, I would kick the living daylights out of her till it hurt. I fought death at a mere 18 months and again some 30 years later. Fought my own battles with teachers and school administrators.

I remember a meeting with one teacher and my parents and she said that I was insolent. I had no idea what that meant, so when I got home I looked it up.

Insolent: boldly rude or disrespectful; contemptuously impertinent; insulting (definition from dictionary.com)

If I knew then what I know now. This is what she would have gotten for that.
Now that’s insolent.

I am ‘bold’. I’m the one in the room that will ask the question(s) that everyone wants to ask, but won’t. However the rest of that stuff is not me. I ask questions. I challenge answers, if they don’t make sense to me.

I fought to be in Advanced Placement classes.  At work I fight for any and every right I have under the law and within the companies policies and procedures. I’ve fought my health insurance company because they wouldn’t pay a claim. You have to be your own advocate. If you don’t no one else will and if you don’t care about you than why should anyone else care about you.

When I do head into battle, I take the facts and only the facts. Do my research and make my argument using those facts. You can’t dispute facts. You may want to overlook them, but facts are facts. And by that token, 99.9% of the time I win.

After the battle is ‘won’, I always get the good fight or good argument and very well put together and executed. And an FYI when I go into battle it’s not completely self serving, it’s for the benefit of others too.

But I can be pretty insolent too. Usually it’s for my own sadistic gratification. Muahaha 😈
